Halloween Frankenstein Chocolate Cake

Spook your friends with this Halloween Frankenstein Cake, made using our Chocolate Lime Cocoa Powder and Key Lime Icing Sugar, you could change the Cocoa Powder to one of our four other flavours, Orange, Cherry, Coconut or Chilli, and use a complementing icing sugar, ideas below recipe

  • Prep Time : 35 minutes
  • Cook Time : 20-25 minutes
  • Yield : 10 slices


Preheat the oven to 180c and line or grease two 7 inch sandwich tins

Place the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and cream together, add in the eggs one at a time and beat in between, then add the cocoa powder and flour and beat until smooth

Fold in the soured cream to the mixture and then separate evenly between the two tins

Bake in the oven for 20-25 mins until well risen and firm to touch, cool in the tin for 5 mins before transferring to a wire cooling rack

To make the buttercream

Combine the icing sugar, butter and milk into a mixing bowl and cream together until smooth, add in the green food colouring and beat until mixed in.

Take the sponges and slice off any raised areas so you have a flat sponge, place one onto a turntable and spread a layer of the buttercream evenly across, add the second sponge on top so the cut side is facing down and you have the baked flat side at the top.

Cover the entire cake with buttercream, use a palette knife to get an even coat and then smooth out.

Chill in the fridge whilst you make your ganache drip

To make the Ganache drip

Heat the double cream in a pan over a medium heat , as soon as it begins to bubble remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate until it all combines and the chocolate is smooth and creamy looking

Take the cake back out of the fridge and pour the chocolate over the cake in the centre, use a palette knife or spoon to gently push toward the edge so a little drips down the sides, put the cake back in the fridge for 20 mins so the chocolate can set

To decorate stick the two chocolate buttons on the side of the cake to represent the eyes and use the chocolate gel to give each eye a pupil, add a jagged smile and stitches if you wish
