Chocolate and Salted Caramel Bread Pudding

Bread pudding is a traditional English dessert similar to bread & butter pudding but with a much smoother, fluffier texture. Sourdough breadcrumbs are soaked in milk, melted butter and beaten egg, mixed with Sugar and Crumbs Salted Caramel Natural Flavoured Icing Sugar and dark chocolate chips, and baked until you get a lovely moist cake. Serve warm in thick slices with cream or ice cream.

Chocolate and Salted Caramel Bread Pudding

1. Start by tearing the sourdough into pieces and place in a large mixing bowl. Pour the milk over the top. With clean hands mix together breaking the bread up as much as possible.

2. Add the beaten egg, dark chocolate, and Sugar and Crumbs Salted Caramel Natural Flavoured Icing Sugar (or any flavour of your choice), stir well, and leave to stand for ten minutes. In the meantime, pre-heat the oven to 180° C, 160° C fan, 325 F, Gas mark 4.

3. Add the melted butter and mix through. Line a loaf tin with greaseproof paper and fill with the prepared mixture spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle granulated sugar over the top. Place in the oven and bake for an hour and a half.

4. When the time’s up the pudding should be nicely golden brown and quite firm. Allow it to cool in the tin for a few minutes. Turn it out, cut into slices and serve warm.
